Van Voorden Gieterij designs and manufactures ship propellers, nozzles and yacht propellers for the maritime market. We also produce high alloyed industrial castings like pump casings, double walled pipe lines, impellers and other wear resistant parts. Almost the entire world wide dredging industry is using these products. The fascinating product range of Van Voorden Gieterij is proudly presented by experienced, skilled people.
The company has two main activities:
Van Voorden have been active in the maritime world since 1912. All products are of in-house design and production. Advanced design systems and robotized production processes are the base of high grade products, largely applying to:
The company is specialised in high wear resistant alloys, mainly used for the dredging and mining industry.
Van Voorden has been recognised by all classification bureaux and has been certified ISO 9001:2008.
Van Voorden propellers are known in the maritime world for their high efficiency, low noise levels and excellent material quality.
We aim at a highest efficiency, combined with the lowest possible production of sound and vibrations for every type of ship, according to the requirement of the customer.
The propeller is a vital but also a vulnerable part of the ship. In this way efficiency has a substantial influence on your fuel cost and, therefore, the exploitation of your ship. As equally as important is the life span and reparability of the propeller.
Optimised propulsion power in inland shipping starts of course with an optimised propeller and nozzle. As you may know, Van Voorden have introduced the Superior nozzle a number of years ago. This nozzle distinguishes itself because of the slim profile, hence less resistance, larger diameter propeller and more propulsion. Combined with a 4-blade optimized propeller - but also with a 5- 6- of 7-blade - Van Voorden have proved itself in the inland shipping industry for nearly a century now.
The Teekay Axiflex is a high performance coupling that allows generous pipe angulation and expansion/contraction. The Axiflex is a popular choice of coupling with water authorities, civil engineers and building contractors and is available in sizes up to 4.2m in diameter.
The stainless steel and high strength steel designs ensure significant weight savings are achieved over cast iron couplings.
The result is less manpower, quicker installation times and massive cost savings.
For the high standards of owners and boat divers of these type of ships, a low noise and vibrations level is a first option. Van Voorden propellers meet these requirement through a design system with which a full analyses of the cavitation behaviour can be carried out. The Next Generation propellers are produced according to Classification I and S.
Van Voorden supply propellers and nozzles to most of the thruster manufactures. These thruster units will be used for tugs and dynamic positioning of off-shore vessels like:
Van Voorden is a well established foundry, producing propellers for most mega yacht builders all over Europe. All propellers are custom designed and produced on premises.
Our propellers have an excellent reputation for their high performance and very low noise levels. The long lasting relations we have with our customers prove the satisfaction of our products.
The Superior nozzle is characterised by its slender, cambered profile that makes no concessions to the system diameter (outside diameter nozzle). Advanced CFD-analyses (Computational Fluid Dynamics) of tens of profiles showed that a more slender profile with more curvature clearly improved the nozzle. Furthermore, calculations also showed that a larger discharge diameter would also improve efficiency.
The nozzle derives its high efficiency from an improved version of the existing nozzle, a circular wing around the propeller. The section profile of this wing generates a higher speed on the inside than on the outside of the nozzle and achieves its thrust through the pressure difference that this creates. Efficiency improvements in nozzle technology have up to now mainly been sought in increasing the system diameter with all the disadvantages that this entails, such as a correspondingly larger installation size.
In combination with a specially developed propeller, the new nozzle has been used successfully in both inland shipping and the fishing industry. Ships fitted with this new combination appear not only to have an increase in thrust, but are also free of unpleasant vibrations and disturbing noises.
In short: in practice the Van Voorden Superior shows its strengths in more than one area!
A propeller in combination with a nozzle gives considerable benefit in:
Besides fixed pitch propellers, Van Voorden also manufactures cpp blades, irrespective of the make of the controllable propeller installation. The blades can be manufactured in alloys nickel aluminium bronze and stainless steel.
The manufacturing of high grade products in wear resistant alloys is our speciality. The alloys must above all resist the abrasive wear. This form of wear is well known at the dredging and mining industry, in their pump systems. Depending on the circumstances, i.a. we use:
